Buddhism and the Contemporary Natural World

In Module 1 we saw how the range of Buddhist under
standings about nature and human-nature relations has been
based on different teachings, texts, and cultural views. We explored Buddhist views of nature from the earliest teachings through contemporary practice, as well as core Buddhist philosophies and how they relate to ecology.

In this module we explore how contemporary Buddhists have responded to the growing global environmental crisis. After a brief overview of the history of modern Buddhism and ecology we present examples of contemporary Buddhist environmental activism.
