wisdom and compassion
In the next lesson you
will explore compassion, which is at the heart of meditation.
Wisdom and compassion are two sides of the same coin. Wisdom by itself
can be dry; compassion by itself can be mushy and misguided.
How
might an understanding of the three characteristics
of existence—impermanence,
unreliability and emptiness—lie at
the root of a skillful and creative compassion?
How might an awareness of death and the
fleeting nature of life give rise to to compassion for
yourself and others?
How might an awareness of suffering awaken
compassion? |
