Description: Aryaloka is part of an international Buddhist movement
known as the Friends of the Western Buddhist Order (FWBO).
It was founded in 1967 by the Venerable Sangharakshita,
who spent 20 years in India as a Buddhist monk, studying,
practicing and teaching Buddhism. Returning to England, he
became convinced of the need for a new Buddhist movement
in the west that would teach the essence of Buddhism and
support those who wished to lead a Buddhist life. Over the
last 30 years the FWBO has grown into an international
network of autonomous public Buddhist centers, residential
communities, right livelihood businesses, health, community
and arts projects, linked by friendship and a common
vision. Aryaloka is one such center, making available the
teachings and practices of Buddhism for all.
